Study programme description
The content of specific teacher study programmes (double combinations of approbations) within the field of study 38. Teaching and Educational Sciences is formed by combining the content of three modules - the Common Social Science, Educational and Psychological Foundations of Teaching (also referred to as the "Teaching Foundation" or "UZ") and two approbations. It is not studied separately.
The Common Social Scientific, Pedagogical and Psychological Foundations of Teaching ('Teacher Foundation') component is part of the teaching programmes of the two endorsements, e.g., Teaching English Language and Literature (combined), Teaching Civics (combined), Teaching History (combined), Teaching Spanish Language and Literature (combined), Teaching Slovak Language and Literature (combined), etc.
Successful completion of the second cycle of the Social Science, Education and Psychology component of the Common Social Science, Education and Psychology Foundation for Teaching ('Teacher Foundation'), together with the completion of the two-application teacher education programmes within the 38. Teaching and Educational Sciences the student will obtain a master’s degree (Mgr.) and a qualification corresponding to level 7 according to the Slovak Qualifications Framework (SKKR). Proof of qualification is a university diploma (level 2), a certificate of state examination and a supplement to the diploma.
Based on Decree No.1/2020 Coll. of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic on the qualification requirements for teaching and professional staff, in accordance with §2, paragraph 1 and Annex No.6, point 1, the second-degree graduate meets the qualification requirements for the performance of the professional activity of a teaching staff member in the category:
- second-level primary school teacher, secondary school teacher (teacher of subjects belonging to his/her subject approbation at the level of lower and upper secondary education),
- teaching assistant,
- educator
In accordance with the SKKR, a graduate of the SP level (level 7 of the SKKR) will be qualified and qualified for the following occupations and professions:
- Secondary primary school teacher,
- teacher of academic (general education) subjects in secondary school
The second cycle component of the Common Social-Scientific, Pedagogical and Psychological Foundation of Teaching ('Teacher Foundation') aims at acquiring full qualification for the performance of the occupational activity of a teaching staff member in the category of teacher of the subjects belonging to his/her subject approbation at lower and upper secondary level (or primary school teacher, secondary school teacher), teacher educator and teaching assistant.
The competences, knowledge, and skills of the graduate of the master’s degree, including transferable competences acquired during the studies, enable them to apply in professions requiring an appropriate level of personal, social and professional communication competences, knowledge, skills and competences of the graduate corresponding to level 7 of the Slovak Qualification Framework.
The component Common social-scientific, pedagogical, and psychological basis of teaching ('teacher's basis') is part of the teacher study programmes of two approbations, e.g., Teaching of English language and literature (combined), Teaching of music (combined), Teaching of citizenship education (combined), Teaching of history (combined), Teaching of Spanish language and literature (combined), Teaching of Slovak language and literature (combined), etc. The labour market applicability of the graduates is described in the individual descriptions of the study programmes of the respective approbations.
Applicants Requirements
Under the "teacher foundation" or UZ component, students do not go through a separate admission procedure. Students are admitted to individual study programmes (approbations) based on specific conditions which are set out in the descriptions of the individual study programmes. The basic condition for admission to a master's degree programme is completion of a first cycle study programme (bachelor's degree programme) in the same or a related study programme or field of study 38. Teaching and Educational Sciences. In case of greater interest of applicants in the chosen study programme than the planned limit approved by the AS PdF UK, the order of admissions will be processed based on the weighted study average for the entire bachelor’s degree I study, calculated only from the completed courses, including the state examination. The expected numbers of admissions are given in the published offer of study programmes for the respective AR.
Graduate of the 2nd degree (Mgr.) of higher education in the field of study 38. Teaching and Educational Sciences within the component of the Common Social Scientific, Pedagogical and Psychological Basis of Teaching has a comprehensive insight into the issues of pedagogical sciences, social and legislative contexts of education and education. The above knowledge can be creatively and flexibly applied in the educational process. He/she has acquired the teaching competence to independently design, organise, reflect on and evaluate the educational process. Is prepared for creative pedagogical work in the context of the diversity of the student population.

Graduate of the 2nd degree (Mgr.) within the component of the Common Social Science, Pedagogical and Psychological Basis of Teaching:

- can independently design, implement and evaluate the educational process, reflect, and improve its effectiveness.

Competencies
The graduate of the 2nd degree (Mgr.) within the component of the Common Social-Scientific, Pedagogical and Psychological Basis of Teaching possesses the following:
- professional-didactic competences, especially psych didactic competences aimed at mediating the content of education, creating the conditions of education, as well as competences to develop the personality of the pupil and his/her competences.
- diagnostic competences, the content of which is the ability to identify the developmental and individual characteristics of the pupil, the ability to know the individual pupil entering the educational process.
- personal competences oriented towards self-awareness, self-regulation, and lifelong professional growth and self-development.
- social competences consisting in effective communication and cooperation with pupils, colleagues, parents, and other external partners
Graduate placement
In the labour market, a graduate of the component of the Common Social-Scientific, Pedagogical and Psychological Basis of Teaching ("Teacher's Basis “) as part of the teaching study programmes of the two teaching approbations will be employed as a pedagogical employee carrying out work activity in the category:
- teacher of the subjects belonging to his/her subject endorsement at lower and upper secondary level (primary school teacher, secondary school teacher), teacher educator and teaching assistant. The graduate acquires sufficient knowledge, skills, competences to exercise the profession of a teacher of subjects belonging to his/her subject approbation in primary or secondary school
- an educator according to Act 138/2019 on pedagogical and professional staff provides education and training to children and pupils in a school facility in the implementation of the educational programme and is responsible for the quality of the course and results of education and training in the out-of-school hours or education in a social assistance facility
According to Act 138/2019, a teaching assistant belongs to the category of teaching staff involved in the implementation of a school educational or upbringing programme. According to the requirements of the teacher, tutor, or Master of Vocational Education and in cooperation with professional staff, the pedagogical assistant creates equal opportunities in education and training, assists a child, pupil or group of children or pupils in overcoming architectural, informational, linguistic, health, social or cultural barriers. Teaching assistants can work in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, private, religious, and special schools, not only in the classroom, but also in the school children's club, in extracurricular or extracurricular activities.
