Description of the study program
The study programme Pre-primary and Primary Education is designed to provide comprehensive pedagogical, professional, didactic-methodological, and methodological preparation for future kindergarten teachers and after-school care educators.
The study consists of theoretical-practical courses, practical courses, and teaching practice.
Compulsory courses form the core of the study programme, for which students obtain a total of 105 credits. The content of the compulsory courses reflects the key areas of knowledge, skills, and competences of the field of study as defined in its description, corresponding to the graduate profile and current practical needs. The courses fall into three categories:
- compulsory core teacher-training courses,
- compulsory courses specific to the study programme,
- compulsory courses developing fundamental pedagogical-psychological and didactic principles and determinants of teaching and education within the individual educational areas of the State Educational Programme for kindergartens and the thematic areas of education in the State Educational Programme for school clubs.
In addition, during their studies students must complete compulsory elective courses worth at least 23 credits, as well as teaching practice. Thanks to the number and structure of compulsory elective courses, the study programme offers a high degree of variability in study pathways, depending on students’ interests, diverse needs, and possible motivations.
Requirements for the applicant
The selection of applicants is carried out based on the results of the entrance examination, while the results achieved during secondary school studies are also taken partially into account. In such a case, the entrance examination constitutes at least three quarters (¾) of the total admission score.
The applicant completes the entrance examination in the form of an interview. The interview takes place before a committee which assesses:
- the applicant’s general knowledge,
- the seriousness and depth of the applicant’s interest in studying pre-primary and primary education, as demonstrated in the applicant’s motivation letter. (The applicant must bring the motivation letter on the day of the interview.)
Given that, within the study programme of pre-primary and primary education, the level of communication is also important as a fundamental interaction process for a future kindergarten teacher and after-school educator, the admission interview also evaluates the content and formal aspects of communication, particularly spoken expression.
Graduate profile
A graduate of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Pre-primary and Primary Education possesses systematic knowledge of the phenomena of educational reality, as well as the content and processes of education and their determinants. They master pedagogical and didactic approaches specific to pre-primary education in kindergartens and to education in school clubs. This knowledge enables them to effectively plan, organise, and manage the teaching and learning process.
Kindergarten Teacher and School Club Educator as a Leader
The graduate is not only a specialist in the educational areas of the State Educational Programme for pre-primary education in kindergartens and in the thematic areas of the State Educational Programme for school clubs, but also an empathetic and emotionally literate leader. They are able to respond to the challenges of contemporary education, are prepared to work collaboratively in a team, and communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and the wider community. They demonstrate public speaking skills, build professional relationships, and adhere to the principles of professional ethics. They have a positive attitude towards the profession, openness to further professional development, and the inner resilience necessary when working with preschool and younger school-age children.
Inclusive Educational Environment
The graduate is prepared to create and foster an inclusive environment in which all children have the opportunity to develop their abilities. They apply knowledge from pedagogy, psychology, social sciences, and specialised disciplines in order to respond effectively to diverse educational needs. At the same time, they cultivate an atmosphere of psychological safety, motivation, and focused attention.
Orientation in Documentation and Planning of the Educational Process
The graduate is knowledgeable about legislation, conceptual and strategic documents related to school activities. They are familiar with current programmes and able to reflect on innovations in education. They can create and use teaching and learning materials, curricular documents, and plan instruction with regard to interdisciplinary coordination. They are capable of collecting, analysing, and interpreting data within the framework of educational research.
Methods and Approaches in 21st Century Education
The graduate is prepared to flexibly apply innovative didactic methods and technologies, including project-based learning and digital tools. They are able to support the development of children’s key competences for life in the 21st century, such as creativity, empathy, critical thinking, metacognition, and civic engagement. They guide children towards a responsible approach to health, the environment, and the values of civil society.
Diagnostic, Intervention, and Evaluation Methods
The graduate possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to apply a wide range of diagnostic, intervention, and evaluation methods in educational practice. They meet the requirements of the professional standard for a beginning teaching professional in the areas of the child, the educational process, and professional development.
Graduate Employment
A graduate of the first-cycle (Bachelor’s) degree meets the qualification requirements for performing the following professional activities:
- full and independent performance of the duties of a kindergarten teacher and a school club educator, including the planning, organisation, and implementation of the educational process;
- application and implementation of the State Educational Programme and the State Educational Programme for School Clubs, as well as the development of a school educational programme and an educational programme for a school club;
