Study Program Council

The main task of the Study Program Council is to prepare a proposal for the accreditation of a new study program, a proposal for the modification of a study program, or a proposal for the suspension or cancellation of a study program (hereinafter referred to as the "study program proposal").

In the event of changes in the implementation of the study program that do not constitute an amendment to the study program, it approves amendments to the information sheet for compulsory subjects, compulsory elective subjects, or elective subjects, including updates to the teaching staff and recommended literature; it prepares a proposal for changes to the conditions for the implementation of the study program.

Hlavnou úlohou Rady študijného programu je vypracovanie návrhu na akreditáciu nového študijného programu, návrhu na úpravu študijného programu alebo návrhu na pozastavenie alebo zrušenie študijného programu (ďalej len „návrh študijného programu“).

V prípade zmien v uskutočňovaní študijného programu, ktoré nie sú úpravou študijného programu schvaľuje úpravy informačného listu povinného predmetu, povinne voliteľného predmetu alebo výberového predmetu zahŕňajúce aktualizácie vyučujúceho, a odporúčanej literatúry;  vypracováva návrh zmeny podmienok uskutočňovania študijného programu.

Status and powers of the Study Program Council

The Study Programme Council also performs the following activities:

a) is responsible for implementing measures adopted by the Faculty Accreditation Council or the Accreditation Council of Comenius University, or for cancelling the study programme and ensuring the completion of studies for students of the cancelled study programme in another study programme in the given field of study,

b) verifies once per academic year the sustainability of the study programme (this verification includes fulfillment of the standards for the study programme, including spatial, material, technical, information and personnel provision of the study programme; assumption of fulfilment of the standards for the study programme (including spatial, material, technical, information and personnel provision of the study programme in the following academic year); accepts proposals for measures or adjustments to the study programme; is responsible for preparing an evaluation of the study programme and submitting it to the Faculty Accreditation Council at least once per period of the standard length of study of the study programme; monitors the application of study programme graduates and evaluates their application and submits them to the Faculty Accreditation Council at least once per period of the standard length of study of the study programme; is responsible for the timeliness, availability and completeness of information about the study program in Slovak and English, and if the study program is conducted in another foreign language, also in this other foreign language, including in particular:

• information about the study program in the structure according to the internal evaluation report and the description of the study program, including information about the admission procedure and conditions of admission to the study program, the content and scope of the study, the forms and methods of studying the study program and the assessment of study results, the conditions for proper completion of the study, the profile of the graduate and the possible employment of graduates of the study program;

• information about guarantors, co-guarantors and other teachers of profile subjects of the study program;

• information about the number of applicants, the number of accepted applicants, the number of students, graduates, the success of the study and the number of teachers by category;

• evaluates and publishes at least once a year the results of the evaluation - student survey in relation to the study program; available data on the employment graduates in practice and information from employers; other information from students, graduates or teachers of the study programme;

• is responsible for preparing the materials for the report on the educational activities of the faculty once a year, • performs other related tasks and activities.

If the Study Programme Council identifies that the study programme does not meet the standards for the internal system or the standards for the study programme, it immediately informs the relevant dean and the accreditation council of the faculty about this fact together with a proposal for measures to meet the standards again.


The members of the Study Programme Council are:

• the guarantor and co-guarantors of the study programme,

• a representative or representatives of employers from the relevant field of education;

• a representative or representatives of students;

• other members, if appointed to the position, in particular representatives from higher education institutions from abroad. Meetings of the Study Programme Council (Article 25) must be held at least once a calendar year. In addition to its members, the dean and vice-deans are also invited to the meeting of the Study Programme Council, and if circumstances require it, other persons as well. These persons do not have the right to vote. The activities of the Study Programme Council, its membership, as well as other procedural requirements are described in detail in the Rector's VP 34/2024.

Persons responsible for providing the study program

Each study program has a designated person who has the relevant competencies and bears the main responsibility for the implementation, development and quality assurance of the study program, the so-called main person responsible for the study program (guarantor) and other persons providing profile subjects and jointly responsible for the implementation, development and quality assurance of the study program, the so-called persons responsible for the study program (co-guarantors).

The guarantor may not be the main person responsible for the implementation, development and quality assurance of the study program at another higher education institution in the Slovak Republic.

The level of creative activity of guarantors and co-guarantors must correspond to the minimum level set for the given level of higher education for teachers of profile subjects.

The guarantor/co-guarantor works in the position of associate professor/professor in the relevant field of study for the established weekly working hours. Roles of the guarantor and co-guarantors

The guarantor

a) coordinates the content preparation of the study program or its comprehensive part in cooperation with the teachers of the study program,

b) ensures that the study program or its comprehensive part is implemented in accordance with the accreditation standards and the internal accreditation file,

c) supervises the quality of the implemented study program or its comprehensive part,

d) approves the topics of final theses, approves the topics of dissertations only after their approval by the departmental committee,

e) in cooperation with the heads of workplaces that are the place of work of university teachers, approves the teachers participating in the implementation of the study program or its comprehensive part, except in cases where he is also the head of the workplace where the given teacher works,

f) develops the content and methodology of the study program or its comprehensive part in accordance with the current level of knowledge in the given field and in accordance with the requirements of practice for graduates,

g) submits proposals to the dean for the amendment of internal regulations relating to studies,

h) cooperates with heads of departments of the faculty and with persons responsible for other study programmes or integral parts of study programmes,

i) participates, as necessary, in the negotiations of the faculty bodies for the processes of the internal quality system,

j) monitors the activities of teachers participating in the implementation of the study programme, mainly through hearings and observations,

k) provides assistance in the preparation of annual reports on pedagogical activity or other evaluation reports relating to information on the study programme or its integral part,

l) implements measures that were taken within the framework of the evaluation of the study programme or its integral part to improve it.

Co-guarantors

a) ensure that the study programme or its integral part is implemented in accordance with the accreditation standards and the internal accreditation file,

b) supervise the quality of the implemented study programme or its integral part,

c) develop the content and methodology of the study programme or its integral part in accordance with the current level of knowledge in the given field and in accordance with the requirements of practice for graduates,

d) monitor the activities of teachers participating in the implementation of the study programme, mainly through hearings and observations,

e) provide cooperation in the preparation of annual reports on pedagogical activity or other evaluation reports relating to information on the study programme or its integral part,

f) implement measures that were taken within the framework of the evaluation of the study programme or its integral part to improve it
