Awards

On Wednesday 18 September 2024, the Martin Benka Prize was awarded to three visual artists, our colleague from the Department of Art Education, Department of Art and Culture of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, university associate professor Mgr. Martin Ševčovič, ArtD.

 

The nominations were presented to the public at the Martin Benka Commemorative Celebration on the occasion of the 136th anniversary of the birth of the eminent Slovak artist at the Slovak National Museum in Martin - Martin Benka Museum.

 

This year the Martin Benka Prize was awarded for the forty-ninth time. It is awarded annually by the Council of the Fine Arts Fund in four categories on the recommendation of the Commission for the Administration of the Estate of Martin Benka. It is open to emerging and established visual artists and art theoreticians who have significantly enriched Slovak culture and art through their works or theoretical works.

 

In accordance with Benko's wish, the commemorative ceremony is held every year on the anniversary of his birth, which will be 136 years on 21 September 2024. It brings together the painter's relatives, relatives, collaborators, memorials and admirers of his versatile work in the Martin Benka Museum - in the functionalist villa where the artist lived and worked for the last 12 years of his life. He donated the works, the entire interior furnishings, personal items and cash to the state. According to the artist's wish, the Martin Benka Prize is awarded every year at the commemorative ceremony.
