The Institute of Philological Studies
The Institute of Philological Studies at Faculty of Education of Comenius University in Bratislava (abbreviation ÚFŠ) is a scientific and research-oriented workplace aimed in basic and applied research in the field of linguistics, literary studies and didactics of English, German and Slovak language and literature, as well as Roman languages and literatures – Spanish, French and Italian. The Institute brings together scientific researchers of the Faculty engaged in scientific research of language and literature in the field of English, German, Romance and Slovak studies, as well as didactics of language and literature in these disciplines and comparative research, which is focused on theoretical issues and cross-language interliterary relations.
The Institute is comprised of four teaching departments, the Department of English Language and Literature, Department of German Language and Literature, Department of Romance Languages and Literatures and the Department of Slovak language and literature, whose faculty implement the research results into their lectures, focusing on syntesis of up-to-date knowledge with the development of competences.
Graduates of the study programmes offered by individual departments of the Institute are well prepared for a labour market, especially as qualified teachers in lower and higher secondary education, as well as in other areas of social life, such as translators, interpreters, editors, proofreaders, workers in print and mass media, cultural facilities, in the third sector, foreign sections of government and European and global institutions.
Departments and their members intensively cooperate with scientific, educational and cultural institutions in Slovakia and abroad.
