During 2023, several training activities were implemented under the umbrella of the Innovation Centre, focusing on fieldwork and case management, linking information between practice, academia and state organisations responsible for migration issues.

In cooperation with the Department of Social Work and UNICEF Refugee Response in Slovak Republic, several lectures by experts were realized between February and May 2023 for the Migration Office, the public and students, in which they highlighted a number of topics related to vulnerable groups and working with them.

Disability Inclusive Service Delivery

The workshop with the expert Kathleen M. Deery was held in both online and presentation format in the PdF Uk building on Šoltésova Street, room 401, in both English and Slovak versions.

What did we learn?

• A new perspective on disability from different perspectives (e.g. legal and social aspects)
• effective communication strategies for respectful communication with children and people with disabilities
• insight into the multifaceted aspects of the lives of people with disabilities and the specific challenges they may face
• discover the significant impact of armed conflict on people with disabilities, giving you a new perspective on the importance of support and inclusion for refugees and migrants
• the knowledge needed to create an environment for crisis solutions that meet the needs of all, including people with disabilities
• practical guidance on delivering services in an inclusive way that ensures equal access for all
• practical exercises to create inclusive service plans tailored to the unique needs of individual organisations

Who is Kathleen M. Deery?

A long-standing expert for UNICEF in child protection and social inclusion, with extensive experience in capacity building in child protection, mental health and psychosocial support and disability. She has worked closely with UN agencies in various countries, as well as with other international organizations around the world. Kathleen has academic, professional and training experience in the field of health disadvantage. She worked in Ukraine for two years, including six months in the Donbas region where she worked in psychosocial support.
