Section of of Music Education
Department of music
The basics of the Department of Music Education of the Faculty of Education in Bratislava were set by the establishment of the Institute of Music Education at the end of the school year 1947/1948. One of the founders was the composer and one of the creators of Slovak music Prof. Eugen Suchoň (1908-1993). Except him, the other important personalities of Slovak music art were the members of the Department in the past, among them an esthetician Ján Albrecht, a music theoretician Miroslav Filip, an ethnomusicologist Alexander Móži, a pianist Ľudovít Marcinger and composers Dušan Martinček and Juraj Beneš. In recent time the Department has undergone many important changes aimed to closer contact with current educational trends. Our students have opportunities to gain knowledge in the field of musical software and applications, new subjects of study focused on ensemble playing have been created as well as a special musical and educational project serving as practical preparation for school lessons. The contemporary music has its important place in process of education as we believe that we can understand the past through the present and it helps us to prepare for the future. Our students have the opportunity to experience the teaching process in the experimental class at CZS Narnia, to attend the concerts of their teachers – respected artists or to visit background of professional musical events organised by many members of the Department. We consider it as highly important to make links between educational and artistic practice and life of the Department. We want to create the place for students to be highly motivated for their own creative quest how to lead children and young people to creativity, values and pleasure of music. Our vision is to provide students with the positive musical experience which they can later pass on their students in their own educational practice.
