Mojmír Malovecký
About Me
I am a research fellow and the director at the Center for the Research of Didactics of Foreign Languages and Literature at the Faculty of Education of Comenius University Bratislava.
My activity is dedicated to the ideas of connecting linguistic research and the teaching and learning of foreign languages. My broader research interests include general linguistics, automation of language analysis, general Romance studies, Romance languages and cultures, translation, didactics, and issues regarding the learning and teaching of foreign languages.
I am co-author of the Slovak glossary of terms of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. I addressed the issues of teaching contrastive grammar of Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish) and Slovak from the enunciative approach perspective in the search for a method in contrastive linguistics. I also focused on the deontological issues of teaching grammar, and the norm and usage of a foreign language. As a teacher and learner of Romance languages and cultures I am immersed in the topic of the motivation of foreign language learners using databases of authentic historical documents (Italian). I am also a fascinated explorer of the history of intercultural relations between Central Europe and the countries of Romance languages. I draw correlations to the history of Slovak literature (Kukučín, Kalinčiak), and I seek it’s didacticisation in the teaching of foreign languages. I am co-author of research studies on Spanish Golden Age, where I focused on historical figures and events of Central Europe mentioned in dramas by Lope de Vega and on the contextualization of the oldest Slovak translations of a play by Calderón de la Barca.
Since 2020 I have been member of a research team investigating multilingualism and time and aspect in Romance languages. The research design revolves around questions and challenges of qualitative data analysis that blends inductive and deductive methods. I conduct seminars in bachelor’s and master’s study programs for future teachers of Italian and Spanish.
