DEPARTMENT OF PRE-PRIMARY AND PRIMARY EDUCATION

Department of Pre-Primary and Primary Education is one of the parts of the Institute of Primary and Pre-Primary Education. It was established in 1995 at the Faculty of Education, Comenius University in Bratislava as the Department of Pre-School and Elementary Education.

The aims of the Department of Pre-primary and Primary Education

§ Developing a theory of pre-primary and primary education through research projects in cooperation with relevant departments and scientific centres of the faculty and then applying them to develop school practice.

§ Conceptually stimulate the transformation of institutional pre-primary and primary education in terms of transforming the content of education as well as in terms of the use of post-modern didactic and educational concepts.

§ Provide high quality teaching in the accredited study programmes.

§ Improve educational and professional qualification of kindergarten teachers, educators in school clubs and teachers of primary schools as well as continuous evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of graduates in educational practice.

§ Fostering the cooperation with other departments and discussing the common goals of pre-primary and primary teacher education as well as education of educators in schools clubs.

At present, at the Department of Pre-primary and Primary Education 3 study accredited programmes are offered: bachelor’s degree study programme Teaching for kindergartens and education for school clubs, master’s degree study programme Teaching for the 1^st level of primary school and a doctoral study programme Pre-school and elementary education.
